Support of Youth and Collegiate Sailing
Helping young people sharpen their sailing skills and learn to compete on the national and world stage is one of the main priorities of the Sailing Foundation.
Support is provided in a number of ways:
- Direct financial support for individual travel to regattas around the country - click here for a summary of our 2011 grants
- Scholarships for youth in Washington and Oregon, who enroll in a learn-to-sail or learn-to-race program, or join a high school sailing team. The Foundation will pay the fee for registration or instruction in such a program for any youth in Washington or Oregon who qualifies for the free or reduced-fee lunch program at his or her public school. Click here for information on 2011 scholarships.
- Assistance in acquiring boats for youth racing fleets in the Puget Sound area. Click here for information about our current role in supporting CYC-Seattle as they expand their youth sailing fleet.
- Sharing expertise with coaches and families involved in local youth sailing clubs
- TSF can act as a conduit for donations which require a 501(c)(3) qualified organization as a recipient, when the donation clearly addresses our mission.
- Development of the annual WIND Youth Racing Clinic, a great opportunity for young people to experience the heavy winds of the Columbia Gorge and hone their racing skills. WIND is now presented by the Columbia Gorge Racing Association.
